Flashing In A Masonry Wall


Flashing's can be installed in various places in a masonry wall they are:

  • Above the wall openings.
  • Below the wall openings
  • Base of the wall.
  • On shelf angles.
The functions of the flashing in each of these locations are as follows:

  • Above the wall openings the flashing's are provided to keep the wall out of moisture.
  • Below the wall openings’ flashing are used to collect the water and directs them to exterior.
  • On shelf angles flashing's are provided to stop the moisture from air through its vertical flow.
  • Usually moisture penetrates the walls and travels downwards. To collect the maximum moisture accumulation flashing's are provided at the base of the wall, where the wall      rests of the foundation.
