Conditions of use require chilled iron casting:

  • Graphite is the major form of the iron cast which needs to be processed under slow cooling.
  • Temperature should be maintained between 
  • Cooling at high rate results the formation of white cast iron.
  • A thick section of casting with slow cooling forms a gray iron and a thin section of casting with rapid cooling forms a hard, brittle white iron.
  •  Fly wheels, gear housings, pump housings, motor frames, steam turbines are making use of chilled cast iron.
