The pavement
should have sufficient pavement thickness and internal strength to carry the
maximum traffic load.
The pavement
should prevent the penetration and accumulation of water inside the pavement.
The pavement
should have top surface which should be smooth and should be resistant to wear,
distortion, skidding, and deterioration by weather and chemical effects.
The pavement
should support the wheel load on the pavement surface and transfer and spread
the load to the sub grade.
The pavement
should be against the wear and tear of external forces along or opposite to
pavement.
