Determination of asphalt in crude oil
The
percentage of asphalt in crude oil is determined by the distillation process in
a petroleum refinery. All the type of crude oil is not suitable to produce or
determine asphalt content. Some crude oil are very heavy and produce large
amount of asphalt and some crude oil are very light and produce very less
or no asphalt. In the refining process the crude oil is processed through
a distillation tower. The atmospheric
distillation tower is used as the primary unit in this processing. The crude
oil is heated and fed into the atmospheric tower. The materials according to
their molecular weight s will be pulled off on their particular boiling points
to produce gasoline, kerosene, and fuel oils. The residual is the total content
in the crude oil. And the percentage of asphalt is determined by their weight
after the process.
