Adobe construction is made by sand, clay and water.
Adobe construction has its suitable seismic resistance capacity.
It is sufficiently durable.
The use of mud gives good acoustics and air conditioning.
Additives like saw dust, straw can be used and straw acts as a binding agent to hold sand and clay together.
It needs continuous maintenance and proper care.
Excess of labor is must.
The compressive strength of adobe construction is 300lb/in2.
The structure may cause damage because of poor raw materials used and some external forces like wind, water, etc.
It is very common in use in West Africa, North America, and West Asia.

Rammed earth construction is made of sand, clay and gravel.
Rammed earth walls are easy to construct.
The life span of the building is high. It can withstand for about more than thousands of years.
Low cost when compared with the standard frame work.
Additives can also used to give strength to the building such as bamboo, timber etc,.
Proper and regular maintenance is must.
It will take two years to dry completely after curing. It has good compressive strength of 4.3 MPa.
The time consumed to build a rammed earth wall without mechanical tools is high.
Rammed earth homes are suitable in desert region and are not suitable for moisture region. |
