The Two Basic Styles Of Stacked Log Construction Methods
The basic styles of stacked log construction methods are of two types they are as follows,
- Chinked style
- Full scribed or Full scope style.
CHINKED STYLE:
In chinked style constructions, the blocks are placed over the other without any previous cuttings. The holes and gaps are then filled with polymerized adhesive rubber.]
Advantages:
- No pre cuttings are needed.
- It is cheaper.
- Less labor cost.
- The electrical wiring can be hidden between the holes in chinking.
Disadvantages:
- The availability of raw material used is less.
- Transportation costs high.
- Due to changes in climatic conditions logs may get subjected to periodic expansion and compression.
FULL SCRIBED STYLE:
In full scribed style, the logs are placed over the other as same as the chinked style and a small difference is that it will be place by cutting its lower part for the best fit over the underneath log.
Advantages:
- It gives better quality of structure when compare to chinking.
- Expandable foam is used as a sealant.
Disadvantages:
- The construction process of fall scribed style is slow.
- It is expensive to build and maintain.
- Labor costs high.
