What are the chief characteristics of stainless steel?
Stainless is any alloy which is
formed by mixing the steel with chromium. Stainless steel has more than 10% of
chromium. Stainless steel cannot be stained but it shows the oil finger marks
on the surfaces. Stainless steel is very hard such that it is used for making
utensils, table ware, and sinks. In stainless steel making process a small
amount of chromium which is present in the alloy is used for forming a hard and
strong oxide coating on the surface. If this
coating is removed by corrosion
then stainless steel also gets corrode like regular steel.
