Surge storage and its usage in asphalt concrete production

In the plant while production, if there is a need of stopping production, we can temporarily interrupt the operation instead of stopping the production. This interruption is made through the surge bin which is installed and used for temporarily storing the hot mix.

Thus the process is referred as surge storage. The surge storage is usually round, silo type structure, the lower end of which is cone shaped. Surge bins helps to speed the loading of trucks with hot mix.

• ·         Surge bins are insulated and can store 50 to 100 tons of mix which makes it a very convenient mode of storage and transport.
• ·         They can usually store hot mix up to a long time with no significant loss of heat or quality.
